GENERAL MEMBERSHIP EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE
MEETING
MINUTES
For January 14, 2014
CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order by Alamo AFA
Chapter President Al Swaim. The meeting was held in the San Antonio Chamber of
Commerce North Business Center.
ATTENDANCE
The following individuals signed
in as attending: Al Swaim, Paul Weseloh, Alan Beaty, Jim Whitmore, Joan
Lopez, Ron Colunga, Annie Howell, J. Sean Habina, Gary Copsey, Darin Defendorf,
Katie McCool, Bill Croom, Ed Garland, Debbie Landry, Ray Cornish, Akau Tuifua, Douglas
Nelson, and Tom Peterson.
TREASURER'S REPORT
Al Swaim reported that the CPA “Statement of
Adequacy Review” of the chapter bookkeeping system was received. The report states that the chapter system
meets required accounting standards with no exceptions. Alan Beaty then reported that the National
AFA support payment for the October to December quarter was received. Alan also reported that a “shopping cart”
system for chapter ticket sales and future on-line purchases and/or donations has
been established.
CIVIL AIR PATROL
Al Swaim reported that a request was received
for an Alamo AFA member to help present Cadet of the Year awards to CAP cadets
at Harlingen and Stinson CAP detachments.
J. Sean Habina volunteered to assist with the Stinson presentation. Chapter membership affiliation roles will be
reviewed to see if there are any members in the Harlingen area who might want
to represent our chapter at their presentation.
MILITARY
NIGHT OUT
The chapter
has had ongoing representation at the Military Night Out functions held each
Friday evening. We need at least two representatives
to attend each week. Douglas Nelson has
placed a volunteer tab on the chapter web page (alamoafa.org) where volunteers
can see which dates need volunteers.
That tab allows them to email Douglas directly to keep a running list of
who is available.
TEACHER OF THE YEAR
Chapter nominations for Teacher of the Year
competition are due to Al Swaim by the end of January.
GOLF TOURNAMENT
Darin Defendorf reported that the chapter is
proceeding with partnering with the ROTC detachments to conduct a tournament on
March 3, 2014 at the TPC golf course.
The chapter golf POCs are working with the ROTC POCs to help attract
sponsors and golfers. Proceeds will be
shared by chapter and ROTCs. Ron Colunga
reported that 46 invitations to participate had recently been sent out to
current and former community partners.
CYBER PATRIOT
The chapter received a request for monetary support
from the local Cyber Patriot coordinator for $500 of in kind support to help with
overhead costs of the spring training sessions.
This is not an identified budget item.
However, we do have funds budgeted for the fall 2014 Cyber Patriot
activities. It was decided to inform the
Cyber Patriot coordinator that the funds for next fall could be accessed for the
spring 2014 request with the understanding that support for the fall would then
be not guaranteed and dependent upon success of upcoming chapter fund raising
activities.
ANNUAL
AWARDS BANQUET
Our annual awards banquet is scheduled for
Tuesday, March 25, 2014. The contract
with the Lackland Gateway Club has been finalized. Reflecting the reorganization of local
military bases there are now 14 major Air Force military activities identified
to nominate category winners. The
civilian award categories are revised to parallel those categories the Joint
Base San Antonio uses for internal award programs.
MEETING MINUTES
A motion was made and seconded to accept the
December 2013 minutes as presented. The
minutes were approved by vote of those present.
MEMBERSHIP
Deborah Landry reported that she continues to
represent the chapter at the Randolph newcomers briefing. She is currently using the National AFA
trifold fliers but will be working to make new flier formats the more
accurately and concisely represent our chapter’s activities and goals. Katie McCool will be attending the newcomer
briefing at Lackland AFB. Deborah also
reported that she is screening the National AFA monthly list of new members for
the chapter and sending a personal welcome letter to those individuals.
AIRMAN HERITAGE FOUNDATION
The Airman Heritage Foundation will be
holding a golf tournament on March 1, 2014.
