GENERAL MEMBERSHIP EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETING

MINUTES

 

For May 14, 2013

 

CALL TO ORDER

 

The meeting was called to order by Alamo AFA Chapter President Al Swaim. The meeting was held in the Randolph AFB Kendrick Club Tradition Room at 5pm.

 

ATTENDANCE

 

The following individuals signed in as attending: Al Swaim, Alan Beaty, Randy Coggins, Joan Lopez, Ray Cornish, Jim Whitmore, Deborah Landry, Ron Colunga, Tex Brown, Levette Stone, Nicole Basnight, Joe Peltier, Douglas Nelson, and Tom Peterson.

AWARDS

 

Al Swaim presented a national AFA Medal of Freedom award to Deborah Landry.  Al then presented the 2013 Alamo AFA Civilian of the Year award to Alan Beaty.  The AFJROTC Cadet of the Year Medal was presented to Cadet Jeremy Linger, San Marcos JROTC TX-921.  His mother, Heather McGee, was present for the ceremony.

 

MEETING MINUTES

 

Minutes from last meeting were reviewed.  A motion to accept the minutes as presented was made, seconded, and passed by those present. 

TREASURER'S REPORT

 

Alan Beaty presented the treasurer’s report.  A discussion was held on the paperwork flow needed to get the one year memberships awarded to award winners submitted to national AFA.   Deborah Landry will work with Alan Beaty on this.  The treasurers report was accepted as presented.

 

ROTC AND VIETNAM VETERAN PANEL

 

A discussion was held on the panel presentation hosted by the Strategic Initiatives and Military Affairs branch of Texas A&M University San Antonio.  Chapter member and National AFA Secretary Ed Garland was a member of the Vietnam War Veteran panel.  Douglas Nelson attended and reported that it was an excellent panel dialogue.  The Alamo AFA chapter was recognized as a monetary contributor to the panel program.

 

 

NATIONAL FIELD LEADER INFORMATION REQUEST

 

The chapter has received a request from the National AFA leadership to provide information on what programs we have or have identified to address support to family members of deployed airmen and wounded airman families.  The chapter leadership will be working a response to National AFA.

CYBER PATRIOT

 

Cyber Patriot activities are now being opened to middle school students.  The chapter will be working on how we will interface with issues such as scholarships (currently we supply $5,000 in monetary awards annually), web site posting, help identifying sponsors and mentors, and monetary support to coaching clinics for food.  After some discussion a motion was made to provide a total of $1,000 for five clinic lunch programs for the remainder of this year.  Motion was seconded and passed by those present.

 

TEXAS STATE AFA MEETING INFORMATION

 

Oklahoma and Texas AFA members will be gathering at the Texoma Regional Convention to be held in Wichita Falls 2-4 Aug at Holiday Inn hosted by AFA Texas Donnelly Chapter.  Information will be posted on the AFA Texas website (www.texasafa.org) by end of May.

 

 

MEETING SCHEDULE

 

Al Swaim briefed that the general membership Executive Committee will not be held on June 11th.   Instead the Chapter Executive Officers and former National AFA officers by invitation will meet in an off-site location work on long term chapter goals and budget issues.  The July 9, 2013 general membership Executive Committee meeting will be held at the Randolph AFB Kendrick club.
