CALL TO ORDER

 

The meeting was called to order by Alamo AFA Chapter President Al Swaim. The meeting was held in the Randolph AFB Kendrick Club Tradition Room at 5pm.

MEETING MINUTES

 

Minutes from last meeting were reviewed.  A motion to accept the minutes as presented was made, seconded, and passed by those present. 

TREASURER'S REPORT

 

Alan Beaty presented the treasurer’s report.  The first quarter 2013 rebate check from AFA National has been received.  IRS filings are progressing with an August due date. The treasurers report was accepted as presented.

 

AFA AFSC CATEGORY SALUTE PROGRAM

 

CMSgt Cody at Randolph is working with Al Swaim to allow our chapter to present the award to the winning AETC Loadmaster at a future date to be determined.

 

AFA NATIONAL SPOUSE SCHOLARSHIP

 

Two scholarships were presented to individuals in the San Antonio area.  Al Swaim was able to personally present one of the awards.

 

24AF COMMANDERS RETIREMENT CEREMONY

 

Certificate from chapter was presented by AFA National representative Bob Largent.

 

 

 

 

 

 

WOUNDED WARRIER FAMILY ASSISTANCE

 

We participated in two activities last month.  One was Gary Copsey working with base programs to provide meals to WW families.  Deborah Landry and Tom Peterson represented the chapter at the Hearts Apart Dog Park Day and handed our water bottles as well as doggy treats for the pets.  Pictures are on the chapter web site.

 

ALS SUPPORT GRANT

 

Al Swaim reported that after extended consultation with the Judge Advocate representatives a method to allow chapter monetary support to the ALS program has been finalized.  This is an effort that has been working for an extended period.

MILITARY NIGHT FOUNDATION

Al Swaim reported that the Military City USA Foundation is looking at having a recurring Friday night activity for BMT graduates and their families to welcome them down town.  Several support organizations may be asked to help support this.  When more details are brought forward we can look at our capability to help support this activity.

 

CELEBRATE AMERICAS’S MILITYARY WEEK

We will be looking for volunteers to be chapter POC for the city’s SAM week.  Any volunteers please contact Al Swaim.

 

Civil Air Patrol Glider Camp

Chapter received a request to fund $500 to support one local cadet selected to attend.  Members present approved the concept but asked that the request be forwarded to the chapter AEF for consideration.

 

MEETING SCHEDULE

 

The September 10, 2013 general membership Executive Committee meeting will be held at the Randolph AFB Kendrick Club.

AWARDS

 

Al Swaim presented a national AFA Medal of Freedom award to Deborah Landry.  Al then presented the 2013 Alamo AFA Civilian of the Year award to Alan Beaty.  The AFJROTC Cadet of the Year Medal was presented to Cadet Jeremy Linger, San Marcos JROTC TX-921.  His mother, Heather McGee, was present for the ceremony.

 

MEETING MINUTES

 

Minutes from last meeting were reviewed.  A motion to accept the minutes as presented was made, seconded, and passed by those present. 

TREASURER'S REPORT

 

Alan Beaty presented the treasurer’s report.  A discussion was held on the paperwork flow needed to get the one year memberships awarded to award winners submitted to national AFA.   Deborah Landry will work with Alan Beaty on this.  The treasurers report was accepted as presented.

 

ROTC AND VIETNAM VETERAN PANEL

 

A discussion was held on the panel presentation hosted by the Strategic Initiatives and Military Affairs branch of Texas A&M University San Antonio.  Chapter member and National AFA Secretary Ed Garland was a member of the Vietnam War Veteran panel.  Douglas Nelson attended and reported that it was an excellent panel dialogue.  The Alamo AFA chapter was recognized as a monetary contributor to the panel program.

 

 

NATIONAL FIELD LEADER INFORMATION REQUEST

 

The chapter has received a request from the National AFA leadership to provide information on what programs we have or have identified to address support to family members of deployed airmen and wounded airman families.  The chapter leadership will be working a response to National AFA.

CYBER PATRIOT

 

Cyber Patriot activities are now being opened to middle school students.  The chapter will be working on how we will interface with issues such as scholarships (currently we supply $5,000 in monetary awards annually), web site posting, help identifying sponsors and mentors, and monetary support to coaching clinics for food.  After some discussion a motion was made to provide a total of $1,000 for five clinic lunch programs for the remainder of this year.  Motion was seconded and passed by those present.

 

TEXAS STATE AFA MEETING INFORMATION

 

Oklahoma and Texas AFA members will be gathering at the Texoma Regional Convention to be held in Wichita Falls 2-4 Aug at Holiday Inn hosted by AFA Texas Donnelly Chapter.  Information will be posted on the AFA Texas website (www.texasafa.org) by end of May.

 

 

MEETING SCHEDULE

 

Al Swaim briefed that the general membership Executive Committee will not be held on June 11^th.   Instead the Chapter Executive Officers and former National AFA officers by invitation will meet in an off-site location work on long term chapter goals and budget issues.  The July 9, 2013 general membership Executive Committee meeting will be held at the Randolph AFB Kendrick club.

CALL TO ORDER

 

The meeting was called to order by Alamo AFA Chapter Secretary Tom Peterson.  Al Swaim arrived and conducted the remainder of the meeting. This month’s meeting was held at the Randolph AFB Kendrick Club.

 

ATTENDANCE

Minutes from last meeting were reviewed.  A motion was made, seconded, and approved to accept the minutes as written.

TREASURER'S REPORT

 

Alan Beaty gave the treasurer’s report.  After discussion the report was accepted.

 

2013 AWARDS BANQUET

 

The Lackland Gateway club has been reserved for March 21, 2013.  A general discussion was held on the next steps necessary in planning for the event.  Invitation and nominee selection request letters have been sent to local military units.  Invitation letter to guest speaker will be sent out by chapter president.  OPEN

 

CYBER PATRIOT

 

Chris Cook has contacted Al Swaim with information on a planned direct broadcast by KLUP during the San Antonio awards presentation.  One of the three speaker positions has been offered to the chapter.  Al will be determining who will represent the chapter as we get closer to the date.

 

COMMUNITY PARTNERS

 

We received twelve new flyers on recruiting community partners.  National AFA has set a chapter goal of one new CP per month. 

 

FUND RAISERS

 

Al Swaim briefed that in light of the possible loss of AETC Symposium income, the chapter may need to start to investigate other fund raising projects.   He is looking to the second, third, and fourth quarters of this year.  One of the possibilities would be to man a concession booth at the air show this fall.  Anyone with suggested fund raising ideas please contact Al so we can consider them.

 

 

 

TEXAS STATE AFA SPRING MEETING

 

The spring Texas State AFA Meeting will be in College Station, Texas on 16 and 17 March 2013.
