MINUTES
CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order by Alamo AFA President Gary Copsey, at 1605 hours.
ATTENDANCE
The following individuals signed in as attending: Gary Copsey, Tom Peterson, Joan Lopez, Dave Stoltz, John Polti, Ryan Richardson, Raymond Mott, Dave Pope, Laura Newberg, Ralph Chalfant, John DiPiero, Bill Croom, J Sean Habina, Mike Nishimuta, Randy Coggins, Jonathan Lacquement, Ed Reynolds, and Lionel Robertson.
GUESTS: James Ramirez, Samantha Maysonet, and Corey Ellsworth, all from Texas State University ROTC.
CHAPTER CHALLENGE COINS
Lionel Robertson circulated sample coins for examination of those present. An initial purchase of 1,000 coins has been made. Some coins will be used in connection with our awards ceremony. Presentation cases for coins are also available for purchase if needed.
SECRETARY REPORT
The minutes from last meeting were presented. Motion was made and seconded to approve as written. Motion passed.
TREASURER'S REPORT
The December reports were presented. Motion was made and seconded to approve. Motion passed.
OPEN VP POSITIONS
The chapter still needs to identify a member willing to support the Communications positions. The support of organizational VPs is requested to help identify members with the skills to fill these positions. The membership position has been accepted by MSgt Jonathan E. Lacquement.
ANNUAL AWARDS BANQUET
2Lt Laura Newberg briefed on planning for the annual awards banquet. An article will be presented on the website and in the next Defender. A photographer has been identified for the evening and will be taking individual pictures as requested.
AETC SYMPOSIUM
Gary Copsey elaborated on the Alamo AFA involvement in the sponsor and exhibit portions of the symposium. There are 30 venders, 9 major sponsors, 57 military booths and 5 recruiting booths signed. Copies of the exhibitor and program guides were passed around for attendee to examine. Volunteers are still needed to man the chapter booth and guest registration booth. An extended general discussion of protocol and arrangements for various associated activities was conducted. Gary Copsey gave the estimated ball-park estimate for chapter income from the symposium which will be applied against chapter AEF fund activities in aerospace education. Randy Coggins, Mike Nishimuta, John Politi, and Ed Reynolds were recognized for their already significant time and effort committed for planning and execution of our chapter symposium activities.
SPECIAL NOTE
Joan Lopez noted that an article on the Alamo Chapter Combat Breakfast was published in the January 2009 Air Force Magazine on page 73 as part of the AFA National Report.
The meeting was adjourned by Alamo AFA Chapter President Gary Copsey at 1700 hours. Next meeting is February 10, 2009.

CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order by Alamo AFA Secretary Tom Peterson, at 1605 hours.

The following individuals signed in as attending, Joan Lopez, Bob Cantu, MSgt Eric Moyer, TSgt Raymond Mott, Ralph Chalfant, Ed Reynolds, Douglas Nelson, Dan O’Neal, Lt David A Jenkins, J. Sean Habana, Lionel Robertson, James Ramirez, Emilie Stewart.
TREASURER'S REPORT
Treasurer was unable to attend. The October and November reports will be reviewed at the December meeting.
SECRETARY REPORT
The minutes from last meeting were presented. Motion was made and seconded to approve. Motion passed.
CHAPTER CHALLENGE COINS
Lionel Robertson distributed the final design sketches of the designs for the chapter challenge coin. The unit cost for the set-up fee and an initial purchase of 1000 coins was reviewed by the members present and accepted as presented.
CELEBRATE AMERICA'S MILITARY WEEK
Lionel Robertson, as a member of the city committee for the Celebrate America's Military Week, gave an out brief on the success of all the week’s activities. Alamo AFA Chapter is listed on the city website as a “Patron Plus” sponsor of the event. Mr. Robertson expressed his admiration for the Combat Breakfast speaker, SSgt Matt Slaydon and his wife Annette. The breakfast was sponsored by our AFA Chapter.
AIR SHOW
Ed Reynolds gave an out-brief on the chapter exhibit at the Lackland Air Show. UTSA and Texas State ROTCs participated in supporting the exhibit. Ralph Chalfant will coordinate with Gary Copsey to get thank you letters sent to the ROTC commanders.
CHAPTER WREATH
This year the chapter did not participate in the Veterans Day Wreath presentation ceremony at Fort Sam Houston cemetery. We need to be sure to get this activity on next year’s calendar to avoid over-looking it again.
EARLE NORTH PARKER SCHOLARSHIP / STRATEGIC PLANNING
Joan Lopez announced that the Earle North Parker scholarship award of $2,000 for winner and $1,000 for runner-up is now being matched by First Command Education Foundation to make the total amount $4,000/$2,000. Joan then gave an update on the Texas State Fall meeting last month. The AFA guidelines for more definitive activities be identified for strategic planning were distributed. For membership goals there was some discussion whether new memberships in excess of quarterly goals roll over to the next quarter. That issue will be researched and addressed again at the next meeting. Ralph Chalfant mentioned possibility of using ROTC cadets to assist in membership activities. We need to discuss further at future meetings.
NEW BUSINESS
Ed Reynolds will speak with Dr. Laura Munro at Lackland AFB regarding possibility of AFA briefings during basic training.
The next AFA State Meeting will be March 6-8, 2009 in College Station.
Joan Lopez briefed on the recent closing of the private WWII museum in San Antonio. One member emailed the chapter website to see if we could be of assistance in finding a new home for the museum. Joan tried to contact the curator at the Stinson Air Museum but found the curator had recently been injured in an accident. The current museum currently is limited on storage and exhibition space.
Ed Reynolds said a representative of the Lone Star Air Museum in Galveston visited our air show booth and mentioned that they are also in need of assistance to recover from hurricane damage. We could offer to put notice on or chapter website where private donations could be sent. Open item for next month’s meeting.
A request was received by email for chapter information on submitting a matching AFA grant for Aerospace Education. Secretary will reply and recommend the application be forwarded to the chapter address for discussion at the next meeting.
There is a need for a new program manager for the spring awards banquet. While no name was submitted at this meeting, J Sean Habana offered to assist whoever is finally selected. Last year’s manager is still in the area for consultation.
